LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — It was an afternoon of hot food and good music at Our Daily Bread as the Minor Blues Youth Band performed classic and 1990s rock hits during the soup kitchen’s lunch service.
Previous iterations of the band have performed at fundraisers for Our Daily Bread, and members reached out to ask if they could visit the Lima soup kitchen to entertain guests.
In addition to the band’s performance, the Murphy family will host its annual Christmas Eve meal at Our Daily Bread, continuing a tradition that began more than 20 years ago. The organization welcomes community members who want to help prepare and serve meals or share their talents, such as music, with guests.
“When they used to have the rally in the square, you'd see a lot of the people that come here sitting on the other side of the road, you know. So they could enjoy the music, but they couldn't really be a part of it here. The music's just for them, so I think they appreciate it," says Randy Kimpel, Dir. of Our Daily Bread.
Kimpel says those interested in volunteering or performing at Our Daily Bread can contact the organization by email at odbread@wcoil.com or by calling (419) 224-2086.
