LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — Minster is bringing home a district championship trophy after a dominant performance over Riverdale in the Division VI girls basketball district final at Lima Senior.
The Wildcats wasted no time setting the tone. Sophia Dirksen knocked down a three-pointer early to give Minster the lead. Riverdale answered with a triple from Annalese Woodruff to tie the game, but that would be as close as it would get.
Reece Albers attacked the basket and finished through contact to put Minster back in front. Elise Albers followed with a bucket inside as the Wildcats began to create separation.
Before the end of the first quarter, Dirksen beat the buzzer to cap off a strong opening frame, giving Minster a 13-3 advantage after one.
Minster continued to build on that momentum in the second half. Jenna Belcher connected on a jumper and led the Wildcats with 15 points.
The Wildcats controlled the pace on both ends of the floor and pulled away for a 54-30 victory over Riverdale to secure the Division VI district championship.
Minster will meet St. Henry in Springfield for an all-MAC showdown in the regional semifinal on Wednesday, March 4.
