The Joint Systems Manufacturing Center (JSMC) welcomed a new leader into their fold. Indiana native Lieutenant Colonel George Kloppenburg has officially assumed command at the Lima Tank Plant after a special ceremony on Thursday. Kloppenburg says he sees his new position as a major milestone in his 17-year career and says that he is honored to take on his new responsibilities.
“Taking command within the army is a milestone that several folks aspire to,” said Kloppenburg. “It’s a part of our career path in the military. I’m humbled and honored to be given the opportunity by the army to actually come here and take command of this plant and become a part of this family here at the Lima Army Tank Plant."
The move brings his career full circle, as he got his start in the military working on tanks. As he transitions into his new role, one of the main things he will focus on is getting to know the people who are now working under his command.
“It’s all about the people here,” said Kloppenburg. “Whether it’s the folks inside this headquarters building or it’s the folks out there in 147 that are on the line actually doing the good work of putting these tanks and strikers together, that’s what I’m focused on, is to get to know these folks."
Kloppenburg says he is also looking forward to furthering energy efficiency initiatives at the plant started by the last commander, Paulding native LTC Travis Adkins, who retired on July 10 after three years in commander at the JSMC.
