September 20, 2024, Press Release from the Johnny Appleseed Metropolitan Park District: The Johnny Appleseed Metropolitan Park District has released information on some upcoming programs and events for the first half of October!
WALKING THRU AUTUMN
Please join THE JOHNNY APPLESEED METROPOLITAN PARK DISTRICT for our 18th annual WALKING THRU AUTUMN HIKING SERIES will meet on Sat., Oct. 5 at 9:00 a.m. at the ALLEN CO. FARM PARK (1582 Slabtown Rd., Lima, OH).
Each week participants will gather for a guided hike, to take in the beauty of fall explore some of the 30+ miles of Park District trails. Upon completing 6 of the 8 hikes, participants will receive a 2024 Metro Parks hiking stick medallion. Hand-made wood hiking sticks are available for $10 and will be able to be purchased at hikes. All hikes start at 9:00 a.m., and last approximately 1.5 hours will be on easy to moderate terrain.
Sept., 7th marks the first hike; however, participants may register as late as Sept., 20th for the final 6 hikes. Walk-ins after that date will not be eligible for the medallion. For any questions, please contact the office at 419-221-1232
APPLE FESTIVAL
Join us on Sat., Oct. 5 and Sun., Oct. 6 from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. as THE JOHNNY APPLESEED METROPOLITAN PARK DISTRICT will host the APPLE FESTIVAL at the LAUER HISTORICAL FARM (800 Roush Rd., Lima, OH).
We invite you to join us for Apple Festival! We will offer children’s activities, hayrides, pumpkin painting, straw pyramid, demonstrating craftsmen, apples & cider, food trucks, and much more!
Entertainment will include on
- Saturday: 1:00 p.m. Chris Rowlands, 3:30 p.m. Spittin Image
- Sunday: 1:00 p.m. FJ Boerog, 3:30 p.m. Shifferly Road.

JOGGING WITH JOHNNY
On Mon., Oct., 7 at 5:00 p.m. THE JOHNNY APPLESEED METROPOLITAN PARK DISTRICT will offer JOGGING WITH JOHNNY at the OTTAWA METRO PARK (2632 Ada Rd., Lima, OH).
“Fall” into fitness with a Johnny Appleseed accountabili-buddy! Join Naturalist Lindsey for a warm-up walk and a few laps around Ottawa Metro Park. All ages and abilities welcome in their fitness journey! Choose a pace that is comfortable for you. Dress for the weather and come out rain or shine!

INTRO TO WOODCARVING
On Mon., Oct. 7 at 7:00 p.m., THE JOHNNY APPLESEED METROPOLITAN PARK DISTRICT will offer INTRO TO WOODCARVING at the MCELROY ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION CENTER (2355 Ada Rd., Lima, OH).
This program is designed to give a basic overview of wood carving. Experienced members of the Lima Area Woodcarvers will cover topics such as carving styles, projects, tools, wood, sharpening and more. This program is for any skill level, beginners included.
This program is limited to ages 13 and up (under 18 must be accompanied by an adult). Register by Oct. 7 online at www.jampd.com or by calling 419-221-1232.
