ALLEN COUNTY, OH (WLIO) - November is recognized as Hire a Veteran Month but one local employment agency says employers should consider hiring a veteran at any time.
At Ohio Means Jobs Allen County, veterans are moved to the front of the line when it comes to possible employment. Ohio Means Jobs works closely with area businesses and industries when they are looking to hire and say veterans bring a special set of skills to the workforce.
"Veterans go to the top of the scale in our job seeker search. So that's the first group we'll put out to an employer. One of the reasons is the skill set they bring is they've served our country, they've got a unique set of skills that come from the military, they're great at taking directions from things, self-starters, able to read directions and do things on their own, a great hire," explained Joe Patton, executive director of Ohio Means Jobs Allen County.
