August 23, 2024, Press Release from the Ohio Power Siting Board: COLUMBUS, OHIO (August 22, 2024) – The Ohio Power Siting Board (OPSB) today authorized Scioto Ridge Solar, LLC to construct, operate, and maintain a 110 megawatt solar-powered electric generation facility and a 20 megawatt battery energy storage facility in Lynn, McDonald, and Taylor Creek townships in Hardin County.
The Scioto Ridge Solar Project will consist of large arrays of solar panels, ground-mounted on a tracking rack system. The project will occupy approximately 822 acres within an approximately 2,029-acre project area.
The project will include associated facilities such as access roads, underground and overhead electric collection lines, inverters and transformers, and an electric interconnection line to connect the project substation to the existing AEP Ohio Gunn Road substation.
The OPSB approved 45 conditions agreed upon by Scioto Ridge Solar Project, the OPSB staff, and the Ohio Farm Bureau Federation. Scioto Ridge Solar must adhere to these conditions to minimize and mitigate potential impacts during the construction and operation of the facility. Scioto Ridge Solar must install agricultural style perimeter fencing; implement solar panel setbacks of 150 feet to roadways, 50 feet to non-participating property boundaries, 300 feet to nonparticipating homes, and 541 feet to wind turbines; and post a decommissioning bond for the solar facility and the battery energy storage facility.
In separate business, the OPSB denied the joint application for rehearing filed by the Deercreek, Monroe, and Somerford boards of township trustees and the Madison County Board of Commissioners regarding the OPSB’s March 2024 approval of the Oak Run Solar Project in Madison County. The OPSB also granted Chestnut Solar, LLC’s request to withdraw its application to construct a solar-powered electric generation facility in Marion County.
Additional information about today’s decision is available at www.OPSB.ohio.gov. Copies of today’s OPSB order will be available in case numbers 23-0146-EL-BGN (Scioto Ridge Solar), 22-0549-EL-BGN and 22-0550-EL-BTX (Oak Run Solar), and 22-988-EL-BGN (Chestnut Solar).
