COLUMBUS, OHIO (WLIO) - The Ohio State Highway Patrol is reminding motorists that we are still in the peak time for deer car crashes in the state, which runs from October to December. Since 2019, there have been over 109,000 deer-involved crashes in the state, and Hancock County has the third highest number of deer-involved crashes with 2,725.

Ohio State Highway Patrol warns motorists that we are in the peak time for car/deer crashes

If a crash is unavoidable, brake, but do not swerve into another lane so you don’t get hit by another vehicle.

Troopers say to avoid crashes, scan the road ahead, use high beams when you are able, and use extra caution while driving at dawn and dusk when deer are most active. If a crash is unavoidable, brake, but do not swerve into another lane so you don’t get hit by another vehicle.

There were 45 people killed from deer-involved crashes between 2019 and 2023, and 87 of the 88 counties had 100 deer crashes or more during that time period.
