Ohio State Highway Patrol will be out in full force over Cinco de Mayo weekend

Tomorrow (5/5/18) is Cinco de Mayo, but as you start getting into the festivities make sure that you are not getting behind the wheel.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol will be out in full force over the weekend aggressively watching out for impaired drivers. Lima Post Commander Lt. Tim Grigsby says that with the recent fatal accidents they have seen involving drivers operating under the influence, the OSP wants to make sure everyone understands the risk you take when you drink and drive.

"The obvious one is the risk of serious injury or death of a traffic crash," says Grigsby. "One of the biggest characteristics of that is you don't have all of your cognitive and physical functionality of your body, you don't have control over it. And there's some people that think that they're okay to drive when in reality they're not."

If you do plan on getting in the party spirit, Grigsby recommends having a designated driver or using a ride-sharing service instead of getting behind the wheel.
