LOGAN COUNTY, Ohio — A teenager from Bellefontaine was critically injured Thursday night in a crash between an SUV and a motorcycle. It happened just before 8:30 p.m. in the 2600 block of County Road 1 in Liberty Township.
The driver of a Subaru Forester, Casey Boyer, 17, of West Liberty, was headed north on County Road 1 when he attempted to pass a tractor. When he crossed over into the opposing lane, he struck the driver's side of a Honda motorcycle traveling south.
The motorcyclist, 16-year-old Myles Sellars, was thrown from the bike and found by first responders lying in the grass next to the road. Sellars, who was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, suffered critical injuries and was rushed to Union County Memorial Hospital in Marysville before being transferred to OSU Wexner Medical Center in Columbus.
Several medical helicopters were initially requested but were unable to respond to the scene due to weather conditions.
Boyer was not injured and was cited for improper overtaking and passing. The crash remains under investigation by the Logan County Sheriff's Office. The West Liberty and Bellefontaine fire departments, as well as Macochee EMS, responded to the scene.
