Semi trailer cut in half after possible malfunction leads to train crash

ANNA, Ohio (WLIO) – A semi driver escaped injury after a possible malfunction on his trailer led to a crash with a CSX train in Shelby County.

The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the crash, which happened around 7 p.m. Thursday at a railroad crossing on Fort Loramie-Swanders Road, about two miles south of Anna.

The semi was traveling to Honda when the jacks on the trailer came loose when they crossed the tracks, stopping the semi on top of the tracks. The driver tried to alert a northbound CSX train, but the train cut the trailer in half.

Neither the semi driver nor anyone on the train was injured. The train was moved to Wapakoneta for inspection. The crossing was closed for cleanup, and the crash remains under investigation.
