DEFIANCE, OH (CBS News) -Â An explosion Wednesday afternoon at an oil refinery in Defiance left a person injured.
The explosion happened around 4 p.m. at the Glycerin Traders Oil Refinery Plant in southeast Defiance. The chief of the Defiance Fire Department says the plant has extensive damage, but there is no word on what happened. Businesses and residents in the area say they heard and felt the explosion happen.
"I thought somebody actually hit our house, and I was like, oh, what the heck? And so I turned around, and he's like, no way, and when you turned around, you saw this big metal thing about 10, 20 foot into the air," explained Robert Clark, a Defiance resident.
"I seen the building about to collapse; the roof caved in, and yeah, it was just real crazy. There was a lot of smoke; I was just worried if there was people in there and if anyone got hurt," described Aaron Johnson, a Defiance resident.
The Defiance Fire Chief says the extent of the person's injuries is unknown.
