PIPP program helps Ohioans with energy bills

The Ohio Development Services Agency and West Ohio CAP remind Ohioans that they can get help with their energy bills year-round.

The Percentage of Income Payment Plan, or PIPP, helps eligible Ohioans pay the same amount each month for their gas or electric bill.  Ohioans that can take advantage of the program must be customers of a regulated utility, and their income must be at or below 150 percent of the federal poverty level.

Those with West Ohio CAP say that one of the most important parts of being in the PIPP program is making sure that you stay up on your PIPP payments.

"When you pay, they give you additional credit - if you don't pay, then your account just builds up to default, which at that point we're limited to what we can do once you've defaulted," said Marva Cowan, Centralized Intake Director for West Ohio CAP.

To apply for the PIPP program, you can contact West Ohio CAP for the application and more information.
