Ohio Senator Rob Portman introduced his longtime acquaintance when the hearings began Tuesday afternoon.
Portman knew Kavanaugh when both men worked within President George W. Bush's administration. Even though there has been an outcry from Senate Democrats to delay the hearings after thousands of pages of documents were released last night and some Democrats have claimed that Kavanaugh's appointment could mean the possibility of overturning "Roe vs. Wade." Senator Portman tells Your News Now he believes Kavanaugh is more about using a precedent set by previous Supreme Court rulings to determine the course of legal proceedings than setting new.
"He does respect the fact that when the Supreme Court makes a decision, someone looking at the next case that involves that should respect what that decision was. Doesn't mean the Supreme Court is always right, but it does mean there is a certain respect in our system for consistency and precedent," said Sen. Rob Portman, (R) Ohio.
Kavanaugh's confirmation hearing is expected to take the rest of this week.
