OTTAWA, Ohio (WLIO) - Families flocked to the Putnam County District Library on Thursday to hangout with some friends from the wild.
It was a full house as the library welcomed Nature's Nursery, a non-profit wildlife rehabilitation organization that supports injured or orphaned animals. The kids were shown Lefty the box turtle, Jefferson the American kestrel and Harrison the hawk. The wildlife professionals from the nursery educated the crowd on the animals different diets, behaviors and fun facts about how they survive in the wild.

Wildlife officials say the kids were in awe seeing the animals up close, and educating the children about protecting and preserving wildlife is the foundation of Nature's Nursery overall mission.
"At Nature's Nursery, we receive a lot of wildlife that may have been usually injured because of some kind of human animal interaction, and so educating people on what to do if they find an animal, why it's not good idea to bring baby bunnies and baby ducks home in kids' backpacks - which happens more often than you'd think - is just important so that people from the community kind of get to know their wild neighbors," said Jamie Forbush, education director with Nature's Nursery.
