The Salvation Army celebrated a major milestone this afternoon.
Today marked its 150th anniversary of ministry. The Salvation Army originated in 1865 in England by William Booth and his wife. After bringing it to America in 1879, the organization works to help families all over the country.
The Lima area Salvation Army helps the community year-round, but today a group met to reflect on the meaning and mission of the organization.
"I think the most important thing is what William Booth wanted to do it to reach out to individuals that a lot of people would turn away otherwise. Whether they didn't look good or they smelled bad, you know. The marginalized is who I think he reached out to and we're still doing the same thing trying to meet human needs and reach them through the gospel of Jesus Christ without discrimination," Deborah Stacy, Lima Salvation Army Major, said.
