LIMA, OH (WLIO) - The city's Lima Creates Grant is helping its second recipient compose a song for the upcoming eclipse.
Samantha Ezell, a Lima-born composer, has been awarded the funding to help create a piece tilted "Hidden Star" for the Lima Area Youth Orchestra to play to commemorate the eclipse. The money will be used to purchase software and equipment to digitally record the song.
The idea is to musically tell the story of the day of the eclipse, with each group of instruments taking turns and simulating a different mood for before, during, and after the moon blocks out the sun.
"A lot of the purpose of the grants that are going on in the city and a lot of the renewal efforts in the city is about creating a better future in the city of Lima, and who better to create a better future for than the kids that are going to be playing music right now, the kids that are in school right now," Ezell said.
"Hidden Star" will premiere at the Lima Area Youth Orchestra's next concert on Sunday, March 24th, at 4 p.m. at Lima Senior.
