Senator Rob Portman is urging Democrats to support the U.S. Mexico-Canada Agreement.
Portman recently wrote an op-ed of his support of the USMCA. The new agreement is a modern version of the North American Free Trade Agreement. It’ll include enforceable environmental and labor standards. It also includes more opportunities for agricultural trade and for U.S. jobs. Portman believes this will truly benefit Ohio farmers, the auto industry and many others.
“I think it’ll pass because it’s better than the status quo which is NAFTA (The North American Free Trade Agreement) in every respect and it’s better for Republicans and Democrats, Independents and everybody,” said Portman. “It’s better for America.”
Portman says he's confident the agreement will pass by the end of the year.
