May is Older Americans Month and today is Senior Citizens Day across the country.
In Lima, a celebration was held at the Knights of Columbus Hall to recognize older Ohioans with a special lunch and an afternoon of music and dancing.
It was 1980 when President Jimmy Carter. declared the month of May as Older American's Month.
There are more than 36 million Americans over the age of 65.
The U.S. Census Bureau estimates there will be 87 million Americans over 65 in 2050.
The theme of Older Americans Month this year is Age Out Loud, urging people to give aging a new voice, one that reflects what today’s older adults have to say.
