A group of students at Maplewood Elementary are showing their community that baking is caring.
Fourth graders Brynn Patterson, Addison Lawson, and Ella Mortiz knew they wanted to help after learning their fellow student, Logan, had to undergo open heart surgery. They organized a bake sale and made plans to use the proceeds to buy restaurant gift cards so that the family will not have to worry about cooking while getting Logan back in good health. The girls have seen an outpouring of support from their school and say that they are just glad to help out where they can.
"I think it's important to help people who need help because you never know if you're going to be that person someday too," says Mortiz. "You might as well help them now so they can help you too when you're that person."
The bake sale will continue Friday (2/16/18) after lunch time and again as school is letting out for the day.
