LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — Candidates for statewide office made a stop in Lima Saturday to speak with members of the Ohio Farmers Union during its 92nd State Convention.
In addition to voting on policies the union supports for Ohio’s No. 1 industry, agriculture, attendees heard from candidates who will appear on the ballot this year. Former U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown, a Democrat, addressed the group about his campaign to return to Washington, D.C., in the 2026 U.S. Senate race. Brown says the current system is rigged against family farms as corporate operations buy out smaller farmers, and he added that things have worsened over the past 12 months under the Trump administration.
“People voted for somebody that that promised lower prices and promised a focus on jobs in the United States, not Greenland, not Venezuela, not Iran. And I think people, a lot of people, are displeased because they don't see the focus of our government. And Jon Husted is doing nothing to call them out. Jon Husted has done nothing to help these farmers. Jon Husted has done nothing in terms of keeping down health care prices for hundreds of people. They literally health care premiums have literally doubled and tripled,” said Brown, the Democratic candidate for Ohio’s U.S. Senate.
Brown will face incumbent Sen. Jon Husted, a Republican, in the Nov. 3, 2026, general election.
