Shopping for Thanksgiving dinner

The American Farm Bureau Federation says that feeding a family of ten on Thanksgiving costs an average of only $50 with the star of the show, the turkey, being at its lowest price since 2010.

You could hear the rattling of shopping carts being pushed in every corner of Meijer today as families shopped for their Thanksgiving dinner favorites. Though celebrations happening next week are about spending time with loved ones, everyone knows that Thanksgiving dinner is the main event. When asking shoppers at Meijer what they're looking forward to about this holiday, well-- "The food! And all the people," says one shopper. "Always have to have my mom's dressing, it's a family recipe, always look forward to it," says another shopper.

And this comes as no surprise to the store director at Meijer, Mark Campbell. He says the holiday season brings more shoppers.

"The November/December months are two of the busiest of the year and they're vital to the stores business," says Campbell. "And it's a very busy time for our customers so we have to spend a little extra time making sure we give that extra special service"

No matter who's surrounding you at the dinner table, or what's on your plate, Meijer works to remind people what the holidays are supposed to be about-- while still helping with everything you'll need.

Campbell says, "We hope we play an important role in our customers' Thanksgiving and we want it to be the best we know its a real family-oriented holiday and at Meijer that's one of our core values is being family-oriented so we try very hard to make that a special occasion."

And for those who realize they forgot something when that big day comes around, don't worry because Meijer will be open all day on Thanksgiving.
