Silver Birch Foundation

Seeing certain needs of seniors they serve not being addressed, has made a local agency step up and find a solution to the problem.

The problem is one that is unfortunately growing; elder abuse in any form. Officials at the Area Agency on Aging 3 here in Lima are noticing there are areas in which they couldn't help seniors they serve, at a time in which they were vulnerable and needing assistance. They're seeing seniors losing their homes due to financial abuse or not being able to get food because of it. These are just a few areas that state and federal funding can't be used. So, they have created the Silver Birch Foundation to raise money to assist these seniors.

"At this point in time there are no funds available through any grants that would help assist with those kind of things, and people end up losing their housing. So we want to raise funds to address that need and then many other needs such as temporary housing, and food, and clothing, and just the basic necessities of life that often times when someone is abused they lose," said Jacqi Bradley.

The first Silver Birch Foundation dinner and auction will be Thursday, November 9, 2017, with doors opening at 5:30, and dinner at 6 at the Old Barn Out Back. There will be entertainment, and a live and silent auction to follow dinner. Tickets are $25. Contact the Area Agency on Aging at 419- 222-7723 for more information.
