Spartans Recognized for Success On Court and in Community

LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — The Lima Senior High School boys basketball team was honored Wednesday during Mayor Sharretta Smith’s media briefing for both their athletic success and community impact.

The Spartans, along with their coaching staff, were recognized for an outstanding season that included a trip to the Division II semifinal game. City leaders praised the team not only for their performance on the court, but also for their dedication to serving the community.

Throughout the winter, players volunteered by shoveling driveways and sidewalks for residents, and they also participated in reading to children during Read Across America Week.

Mayor Smith encouraged the community to celebrate the team’s accomplishments both on and off the court. She also issued a proclamation declaring April 1, 2026, as Lima Senior Spartans Boys Basketball Day in the City of Lima.
