St. Charles students learn about opioids and other dangerous drugs

St. Charles School continued celebrating their Positive Addiction Week, Tuesday morning, by hosting a few speakers from St. Rita's Medical Center.

During science class, sixth, seventh, and eighth graders all received a talk about opioids and dangerous drugs from three representatives of St. Rita's Pharmacy Department. Each session began with a fifteen minute talk about prescription drugs and street drugs, what they are, what their dangers are, and why it's important to follow the doctor's order when taking opioids.

Students then divided into teams and played two games to test their knowledge of opioids. The first featured two images and the students had to select which one was candy and which one was a drug. The second was a Family Feud style game. St. Rita's believes this type of thing is important and can go a long way for students, even at a young age.

This afternoon, seventh graders will learn about the dangers of sex trafficking and eighth graders will learn about sports performance enhancing drugs, all part of St. Charles' Positive Addiction Week.
