March 17th may have already passed, but for the folks in St. Henry, the St. Patrick's Day fun was just getting started. The St. Henry American Legion hosted their annual St. Patty's day festivities Sunday afternoon. The day started off early with people signing up for a 5K race that ran through the village. Coordinators for the event, say they already had about 200 people sign up ahead of time for the run, and by the end of the day they expected a couple thousand people to be lining the streets for their parade and Irish fest.
"We started this event ten years ago. We did not have a veteran's memorial in town, and we thought this might be a good way to raise some funds for that. Back in the early 70's, St. Henry did have a St. Patty's Day parade, ran for a few years, and we thought why not bring it back so we brought it back. It's now become a rite of springtime," said Terry Kremer, event coordinator with the American Legion.
All the proceeds from the event go towards the Veterans Honor Garden in St. Henry.
