Suppression hearing held for man who confessed to 2001 murder

An Allen County judge is set to review the recorded interview between detectives and the man who confessed to a murder that happened 15 years ago.

35-year-old David Evans appeared in court for the first half of a suppression hearing to discuss two separate interviews that happened between the defendant and Lima Detective Steve Stechschulte. The judge will review the two recorded interviews to make sure Evans was properly advised of his rights. The two interviews between Evans and Detective Stechschulte took place on September 13th and 16th of 2016.

In September, Evans admitted to the murder of 69-year-old Cardell "Bob" Beachum. Beachum was found shot to death in the parking lot of his business off St. John's Avenue on July 2, 2001. A second part of the suppression hearing will be held at a later time, to review an interview between Evans and detectives back in 2001. The trial date is set for April 18.
