The Johnny Appleseed Park District hosts "Firebugs and Lightning Flies" at the Lima Public Library

The Johnny Appleseed Metropolitan Park District teamed up with the Lima Public Library to host "Firebugs and Lightning Flies." People of all ages turned out to learn all about the history, biology, and the culture behind the insects that they chase around throughout the night. Before the event wrapped up, participants were given the chance to be their very own version of a firefly.

"I love connecting people with nature, and firefiles are such a great tool to do that. They're the tip of the iceberg for nature enthusiasts. They are so accessible so fun. We remember them from our childhood, and we can learn a lot about the biology of the natural areas around us, the forests, the beetles, and other animals that are associated with fireflies," added Dan Hodges, Education Supervisor at the Johnny Appleseed Park District.
