ALLEN COUNTY, OH (WLIO) - Like many clubs in the region, Lima's "Starlight" club is seeking new members.

The Starlight Club continues to foster friendship among individuals with visual impairments

The next luncheon will be Friday, September 27th, at the Eagles on Robb Avenue.

To be a member, you must be legally blind or have a vision impairment. The Lima Host Lions Club sponsors the club, which holds a lunch meeting the last Friday of the month. It’s a chance for individuals with similar vision issues to talk, get to know each other, and even make a difference in the community.

Sean Oden says there needs to be improvements in city crosswalks, “The problems that we as visually impaired face is the signals. We have to be able to hear if there’s vehicles stopped at the light, and if we don’t hear the cars and we would dare cross, we could be in trouble. Especially these hybrid cars or the electric cars.”

Bill Stolly with the Lima Host Lions Club adds, “Like a lot of clubs, age has reduced our numbers, but with the notion of anyone who has sight impairment who’s looking to get out and meet some new people, it’s a very friendly club and very open. We have this casual lunch with a speaker each month. There’s no cost, and we’re going to continue going on like we have for the past many decades.”

Stolly says the Starlight Club dates back to the 1940s. The next luncheon will be Friday, September 27th, at the Eagles on Robb Avenue. If you are interested in the club, they encourage you to come and learn more.
