The Allen County Council on Aging is teaming up with the Lowe’s Hero Program and the Area Agency on Aging 3 to build a new outdoor space for seniors.
Every year, Lowe’s stores across the country chose a project that will benefit the community. The Lowe’s Hero Program donated the materials and supplies to help the Council on Aging do just that. A group of volunteers lent a helping hand this morning to work on building raised flower beds and a walkway for seniors to get outside and enjoy the fresh air.
“It's good for them to get out and do things outdoors, as well. It's a place that they can sit and enjoy gardening, raising crops, just different options for them,” says Miranda Ridenour, the Retired Senior Volunteer Program Director for Area Agency on Aging 3.
“It's important to get out and get in the sun, just walk and walking is important with the seniors,” shares Lorain Lovett, the Program Coordinator for the Allen County Council on Aging Adult Day Center.
Although they were hoping to have the project finished in the spring to plant crops for this fall, the Council on Aging plans to get festive and decorate the space with mums and pumpkins for the fall season.
