It has become a tradition, not just for train enthusiasts, but history buffs as well.
Every two years, the Allen County Historical Society hosts "Ridin' the Rails" as a fundraiser for the museum. It has become a popular event as it takes you back to a simpler time as you take a train ride on the Indiana and Ohio Railway in vintage passenger cars. This year you'll be traveling to Quincy, Ohio, east of Sidney and going over the historic Quincy truss bridge built back in 1911.
"Most people don't get to ride in a passenger car on a train anymore. So, and this takes us back and the cars are from the '50s and so it takes us back in time a little bit and shows us how people used to travel around Ohio," said Donna Collins, Allen County Museum Administrative Assistant.
Collins hopes with the excursion planned for October 13th, there will be good fall foliage on the trip. Tickets are now available online or at the Allen County Museum for $45 for adults and $25 for children under the age of 12. Departure will be from Lincoln Park at either 10 a.m. or 2 p.m.
