Yesterday, Congressman Bob Latta (OH-05) and Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur (OH-09) introduced the bipartisan Rear Admiral Alene Duerk Ship Renaming Act of 2025, legislation to honor one of Northwest Ohio’s most distinguished trailblazers in military history, Rear Admiral Alene Bertha Duerk, the first woman in United States Navy history to achieve Flag Rank, achieving the rank of Rear Admiral.

May 7, 2024, Press Release from the Office of U.S. Congressman Bob Latta: BOWLING GREEN, OH – Congressman Bob Latta (R-OH5) announced Charlotte Smith, a sophomore at Eastwood High School, as the winner of Ohio’s Fifth District 2024 Congressional Art Competition. Smith’s winning artwork, entitled Sacagawea and her Babe, will be displayed at the U.S. Capitol Building for one year. Three honorable mention winners will have their artwork displayed in one of Latta’s congressional offices for the year. 127 high school students from 31 high schools participated in this year’s competition. Latta hosted a reception at Bowling Green State University on Saturday, May 4th, to honor all participants and to showcase each individual work of art.

Congressman Bob Latta visited Family Health Care of Northwest Ohio and The Marsh Foundation. The Paycheck Protection Program provides resources to small businesses so that they can continue to pay employees and cover costs during the COVID-19 pandemic. The program lasts up to 24 weeks, where funding can be used to cover the entire cost of payroll and other eligible expenses.
