The Delphos Firefighters Local 686 have received the green light from city administration to accept a large grant aimed to increase personnel numbers. Following an evening of extensive discussion with Delphos Fire & Rescue, Delphos City Council voted in favor by a 4-to-3 vote for the city's fire department to accept "The Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response Grant" or the SAFER Grant. The little over $1.8 million grant will provide Delphos Fire & Rescue funding to add 6 new full-time personnel over a 3-year time period. After council's approval, Delphos Fire personnel spoke with us on what this means for their department.

The Delphos Firefighters Local 686 are seeking to bring in a major grant to help with daily operations and personnel. The department filed for, and was named the recipient of, "The Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response Grant," known as the SAFER grant. If approved by Delphos City Council, the little over $1.8 million grant would supply the funding for six new full-time personnel for a time period of 3 years which would double current Delphos firefighter personnel numbers. Fire officials say this grant would substantially help their ability to handle emergency calls.
