Governor Mike DeWine to talk about his budget priorities during his State of the State address on January 31st. This will be DeWine’s first address to Ohio’s legislators since being elected to a second term in office. He says he will talk about the strength of the state and what he wants to see funded in the next two-year budget, which needs to be past this coming summer. Before Christmas, DeWine told Your News Now that mental health, career training and education, and support for first responders are some of the issues he wanted to tackle in his second term. The State of State address will be January 31st at noon and can be seen online on the Ohio Channel website.
Governor Mike DeWine has signed into law a requirement that all Ohioans show photo ID to vote. The new mandate is part of package of election law changes the governor signed Friday, after it was sent to him by the Republican-led legislature. The new law also shrinks the windows for mail-in ballots to be counted and for curing provisional ballots, and eliminates a day of early voting. Their backers say the changes further protect against fraud and speeds up vote counting that's been more closely scrutinized since 2020. Opponents call the changes cumbersome and unnecessary because voting fraud is rare.

Governor Mike DeWine says that he will be holding a State of State address in 2022. The first and last State of the State that the governor had was in 2019 and he decided to not hold the annual address the past two years because of the pandemic. DeWine did address state issues at the over 160 Coronovirus briefing that he held over the last 22 months. DeWine also promised to hold the State of the State speeches in Columbus, stopping the trend that his predecessor John Kasich did of moving the address to different locations around the state including Lima. There is no date yet when DeWine will be holding his State of the State address.
