Authorities say the man appeared to have been ice fishing when he broke through the ice and entered the water. He was pronounced dead at the scene after crews recovered him from the reservoir.

With the cold and harsh temperatures ramping up this winter season, nearby ponds and reservoirs are paving the way for ice activities such as fishing or skating. The Ohio Department of Natural Resources recommends four to five inches of ice before considering going out to fish. However, ice skaters are being told by officials to stay away due to the possibility of ice not being as thick at different spots.
