Pope Leo XIV has demanded an end to the “pandemic of arms” during a public prayer for victims of a shooting at a Catholic school Mass in the United States. Speaking in English, the Chicago-born pope referred directly to the attack in urging a culture of fraternity to prevail. The shooting occurred at the Church of Annunciation in Minneapolis, killing two children and injuring 20 others. The shooter fired 116 rifle rounds through the church’s stained-glass windows before dying by suicide. Initially, Leo refrained from political commentary, focusing on spiritual condolences for those affected.
