“Our public schools are secular, and we have to protect that — not just for anyone else of different faiths, or no faith, or whatever it may be, but to protect people of faith, too,” Gaines said. “This is their choice, outside of a government institution, to raise their children in a particular faith. But when other children are exposed to it during the school day, when it’s disrupting instruction and, by extension, using taxpayer funds — that’s when it becomes a problem.”
