University of Michigan Health-Sparrow plans a new behavioral health hospital in Lansing that adds child and teen inpatient care. On Thursday, the U-M Board of Regents approved the project and a separate surgical center. Together they cost nearly $150 million. The behavioral health hospital would have 64 beds and costs $83 million. It would include 16 pediatric beds and expand outpatient options. Leaders say the region lacks child psychiatric care. The surgical facility will cost $60 million and start with four operating rooms. U-M says both projects address unmet needs. Officials expect groundbreaking this summer and opening in 2028.
