The annual Bottle Rocket Launch competition is a yearly physics experiment for Shawnee teacher Bob Sunderhaus. Students are split into groups and make their own bottle rocket with a plastic 2-liter bottle and other materials. The bottle is then launched from a pressurized hose and measured to see how far the rocket travels in meters. The experiment showcases their creativity and teamwork, as well as their knowledge of physics, and is a fun way to end the school year.

April 25, 2024, Press Release from the USDA Rural Development: COLUMBUS, Ohio, Apr. 25, 2024 – U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development in Ohio State Director Jonathan McCracken announced today funding for 40 projects through the Rural Energy for America Program (REAP) for investments in renewable energy systems or to make energy efficiency improvements. These projects will help Ohio farmers and small businesses lower energy costs, generate additional income, and strengthen resiliency in their operations.
Rhodes State College will be purchasing new equipment for their new semiconductor certificate program coming to campus. The State of Ohio awarded Rhodes State a $113,000 grant to invest in the new technology. The technology consists of various vacuum and gas equipment that will allow students to learn and train in realistic semiconductor manufacturing environments.
The Allen County Sheriff's Office reports there were no major emergencies and just a handful of calls for service. None of them related to tourists. They do believe that the planning done before the eclipse helped with the day, and they did the best they could.
Students from Montana State University were in New Knoxville to study the effects of the eclipse on the atmosphere.
Many of the families were from out of town, spending time with family to view the eclipse. The children were especially excited to see what a total eclipse would be like.
The Allen County Airport was anticipating nearly 50 planes by the time of the eclipse, and they were coming in one after another this morning. Planes of all types were on the tarmac from all over the country. Several were from Michigan; others were from Virginia and Florida, all looking forward to the big moment.
Families, couples, and solo pilots from all over the country gathered at Auglaize County's Neil Armstrong Airport to watch today's eclipse. After landing, there was also a shuttle available to take them to the Armstrong Air and Space Museum in Wapakoneta. The crowd gathered on the tarmac was a good mix of first-time eclipse viewers, eclipse chasers, and astronomers.
