September 27, 2024, Press Release from the Ohio Department of Transportation: SIDNEY (Friday, September 27, 2024) As part of The Ohio Department of Transportation’s (ODOT) statewide rest area upgrade project, the Miami County north and southbound I-75 rest areas will close Friday, October 11, for demolition and replacement. The work is expected to take approximately one year to complete. The rest areas will be completely closed with barricades and not accessible by the traveling public. The new facilities are expected to open in fall of 2025.
August 23, 2024, Press Release from the Ohio Department of Transportation: BOWLING GREEN, Ohio (Friday, Aug. 23, 2024) – The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) announced today that three northwest Ohio rest areas have new Storybook Trails, which are designed to inspire kids to read while being active. Children and their families can read a Dolly Parton Imagination Library book along a trail when they visit the Welcome Center in Wood County on I-75 southbound, and rest areas in Wyandot County on U.S. 30 eastbound and westbound. The Storybook Trails promote literacy, a healthy lifestyle, and connecting with nature when travelers take a break on their journey.
The State Highway Patrol is investigating a man that was found dead in a rest area in Van Wert County. According to troopers, 40-year-old Donald Richardson jr. of Lima was found dead in the eastbound rest area on U.S. 30. They discovered his body in a car when that they were doing a check at the rest area. No other details have been released about case that is still under investigation.
