But with so many options, what do you need to look for when browsing the sunscreen aisle?Along with checking the SPF rating, Dr. Khetarpal said it’s important to find one that’s water-resistant if you plan on going to the pool. Dr. Khetarpal said chemical sunscreens typically offer better water resistance than mineral sunscreens. Chemical sunscreens are also often easier to apply and more transparent on the skin, while mineral sunscreens can be good for those with sensitive or acne-prone skin. Whether it’s a chemical or a mineral, both offer adequate protection from the sun.
As people are wearing masks to help slow the spread of COVID-19, people who wear them for long periods of time may notice their skin drying out often. Joel Shanklin, MD with Mercy Health St. Rita's, says that mask wearing can cause your skin to dry out faster than it would normally, and recommends that you follow a normal face care routine, including using a face lotion, to help with that.
