Cenovus Energy’s Lima Refinery donated $15,000 to the Apollo Educational Foundation to support career training and workforce development for students at Apollo Career Center. The funding will help students participate in programs like SkillsUSA competitions, which allow them to showcase and strengthen their trade skills.
Young people from across the region tested their spelling skills at The Lima News’ 2026 Regional Spelling Bee. Students ranging from fourth through eighth grade traveled from Allen County and several surrounding counties to compete for the title of top speller.

The University of Northwestern Ohio hosted the 2026 Ohio FFA State Finals in agricultural power diagnostics.
Hundreds of students filled Apollo Career Center on Friday, showcasing their talents across a wide range of skill areas. Apollo hosted the 2025-26 SkillsUSA Ohio Northwest Regional competitions. 66 Apollo students were among approximately 500 students from 20 career and technical centers who competed.
The Lima Noon Optimist Club is helping Allen County students develop skills that will benefit them in the future.
