LIMA (WLIO) — Fresh off a state championship on the hardwood, Delphos St. John’s opened its baseball season with an 11-1 win over Shawnee.
The Blue Jays wasted no time in the first inning. Tyce McClain scored on a pitch to the backstop, and Andrew Elwer brought home Cameron Elwer on a groundout. Dylan Hummer later added to the early surge, driving in Drake Fittro to cap a three-run frame.
On the mound, Cameron Elwer got the start and struck out the side in the second inning, allowing no runs across two innings of work. Shawnee’s Luke Menke provided relief, recording four strikeouts for the Indians.
Delphos St. John’s cruised the rest of the way to secure the season-opening victory.
