ELIDA, Ohio (WLIO) — The Elida Bulldogs are moving on in the ACME postseason after rallying past the Bath Wildcats 10-5 in the District 5 Tournament at Ed Sandy Field.
The all-Western Buckeye League matchup was scoreless until the third inning when Elida broke through.
With two runners on, Carson Kirk delivered a single up the middle to bring home Zy Edwards. A throwing error allowed Jonan Snyder to score as well, giving the Bulldogs an early 2-0 lead.
Bath answered in the fourth inning, cutting the deficit in half on a wild pitch that brought home a run and made it a 2-1 game.
The Wildcats then took their first lead of the night in the fifth inning. Will Mattevi drove a ball into the left-center gap, bringing home two runs and putting Bath ahead 3-2.
But Elida responded in a big way.
The Bulldogs exploded for eight runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, highlighted by a three-run home run from Kirk over the left-field wall. Kirk finished the game with five RBIs.
Elida held on for a 10-5 victory and will advance to face Ottawa-Glandorf back at Bath on July 1st.
