Elgin rallies past Upper Scioto Valley in NWCC clash

MCGUFFEY, Ohio (WLIO) — Elgin Comets erased a late deficit to defeat Upper Scioto Valley Rams 60-57 on Friday night in Northwest Central Conference action.
Upper Scioto Valley, winners of its previous five games entering the matchup, started quickly in the first quarter.
Chloe Cunningham connected on a 3-pointer after creating space off the dribble, accounting for three of her 12 points as the Rams grabbed an early lead.
The Rams continued to find success from beyond the arc. Raegan Castle knocked down a corner 3-pointer on the ensuing possession and finished with 14 points, helping the home team maintain momentum.
The game tightened in the second quarter as both teams traded baskets. Layla Hunsicker led Upper Scioto Valley with a game-high 27 points, including a floater in the lane that kept the Rams in front during the back-and-forth stretch.
Elgin responded down the stretch. Maycee Mueslin scored on a layup during the decisive run and finished with 23 points as the Comets completed the comeback.
Elgin held on in the closing moments to secure the 60-57 victory.
