FORT RECOVERY, Ohio (WLIO) — Kayla Gaerke knocked down a key 3-pointer and Fort Recovery closed strong to defeat New Knoxville 44-37 on Thursday night in a Midwest Athletic Conference girls basketball matchup.

New Knoxville took a slim 12-11 lead after one quarter when Avery Albers drove to the basket and beat the buzzer as time expired.
The Rangers continued to apply pressure in the second quarter, highlighted by senior Addison Albers converting a second-chance opportunity off an inbounds play to give New Knoxville a 21-14 advantage with under three minutes remaining before halftime.
Fort Recovery answered before the break. Gaerke, a freshman, buried a 3-pointer off an inbounds play to spark momentum for the Indians, who entered the game winners of three straight.
The Indians carried that energy into the second half, pulling away down the stretch to secure the seven-point victory on their home floor.
Fort Recovery improved its winning streak to four games with the conference win.
