SUNBURY — Kalida’s Paul Stechschulte capped off a stellar season by winning the Division III boys state golf championship at NorthStar Golf Club.

The Wildcat sophomore fired a 3-under 69 in Tuesday’s final round, paired with his 1-under 71 from Monday, to post a 4-under 140 overall — five strokes ahead of runner-up Alex Eckstein of Cardinal Mooney.

Stechschulte’s final round included just one bogey, 14 pars, two birdies, and an eagle on hole seven.

He becomes just the second individual state champion in Kalida golf history, joining Jason Unverferth, who won the title back in 1997.
