CELINA, Ohio (WLIO) — The Grand Lake Mariners stayed red hot Tuesday, using a nine-run third inning to power past the Muskegon Clippers 12-4 in the opener of a doubleheader at Montgomery Field.
Trailing 1-0 in the first inning, the Mariners answered quickly. CJ Filipek drove a ball off the left-field wall to score Solomon Harwood and tie the game at one.
Later in the inning, a wild pitch allowed Brandt Kendall to race home headfirst, giving Grand Lake a 2-1 lead.
After falling behind 3-2, the Mariners responded again in the third. Forrest Day’s infield single brought home Kendall to even the score at 3-3.
Grand Lake then broke the game open. With the bases loaded, Landon Tiesing hit a ground ball to shortstop that allowed another run to score safely. The Mariners continued to pour on the offense, plating nine runs in the inning.
Grand Lake cruised to a 12-4 victory in Game 1.
The Mariners carried that momentum into the nightcap, winning 4-2 to complete the doubleheader sweep and extend their winning streak to 11 games.
