Leipsic claims sectional title with 59-45 win over Upper Scioto Valley

LEIPSIC, Ohio (WLIO) — Leipsic used a strong fourth quarter to defeat Upper Scioto Valley 59-45 in girls basketball action in the Putnam County area.
Upper Scioto Valley led 27-25 at halftime after Ruby Risner knocked down a three-pointer in the second quarter to give the Rams momentum heading into the break.
Leipsic answered in the third. Nora Schroeder scored off the glass on an inside feed to tie the game at 29.
Later, with the Rams trailing by three, Raegan Castle connected from long range. The junior finished with nine points.
But Leipsic had the hot hand down the stretch. Freshman Kya Brandt created space and buried a three-pointer as part of a dominant performance. The PCL and BVC First Team selection poured in 37 points, including 20 at the free-throw line.
Leipsic pulled away in the fourth quarter to secure the 59-45 victory and take home a DIV. VII sectional title.
The Vikings will now play McComb in the district semifinal on February 25 at the Elida Fieldhouse.
