Lima Locos complete three-game sweep of Southern Ohio Copperheads with 12-2 win

LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — The Lima Locos finished off a dominant series sweep Wednesday, defeating the Copperheads 12-2 at Simmons Field to complete a three-game sweep.
Garrett Byrd set the tone on the mound, striking out two batters in the fourth inning as part of a strong outing. The right-hander went five innings, finishing with seven strikeouts while helping the Locos build a 3-1 lead.
The offense provided early support in the fourth inning when Cameron Greene launched a solo home run to right field, extending the Locos’ lead to 4-1.
Lima kept the pressure on in the fifth. Grant McGuire ripped a double into left-center field, driving in Tyler Vansumeren to make it 5-1.
Later in the inning, the Locos added more insurance on a wild pitch that allowed Greene to score, pushing the lead to 7-1.
Montgomery O’Brien came on in relief in the sixth inning and struck out a batter to help shut things down late.
Lima rolled to a 12-2 victory and completed the three-game sweep of the Copperheads, improving to 20-5 on the season.
