LIMA — The Lima Locos continue to flex their muscles atop the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League, sweeping a doubleheader over the Xenia Scouts on Wednesday at Simmons Field to push their record to 21-9 and extend their lead in the North Division to five and a half games.
In Game One, after falling behind 1-0, the Locos responded with sharp defense and dominant pitching. Colton Shirley and Brecken Menuet turned a double play to escape trouble in the second inning, and starter Nick Kolze—who entered the night leading the division in ERA—delivered his second complete game of the year, striking out three.
Offensively, Cole Crafton provided the spark with a two-run home run in the third, his fourth of the season, and Grant McGuire added another solo shot to lift Lima to a 4-3 win.
Game Two saw more offensive fireworks from the Locos. After an early RBI single from Crafton tied the game, Lima exploded for a five-run fourth inning. David Falloon drove in a run with a sharp single, and Luke Mottola capped off the frame with a base hit to score Falloon.
The Locos took the nightcap 9-4, completing the sweep and solidifying their status as the top team in the GLSCL.
